B. Sz.-Nagy Medal

Béla Szőkefalvi-Nagy Medal

Year 2019

The Bolyai Institute of the University of Szeged is pleased to announce that the Béla Szőkefalvi-Nagy Medal for the year 2019 has been awarded to

Professor László Hatvani, University of Szeged, Hungary.

László Hatvani works in the theory of differential equations and its applications. He obtained several outstanding results in the qualitative theory of differential equations, mainly for non-autonomous systems. He achieved important results in the theory of partial stability of dynamical systems. He developed new mathematical tools for studying the stability of non-autonomous second order nonlinear differential equations. The computer-assisted proof of chaotic behavior in the forced damped pendulum equation by him and his coauthors has generated a great deal of international interest. Since 1971 Professor Hatvani has published 13 definitive scientific papers in Acta Scientiarum Mathematicarum.

The Medal was be presented to László Hatvani at 11:00, november 22, 2019 in the Bolyai Hall of the Bolyai Institute. On this occasion he delivered a lecture on ``Finite and infinite Fermi-Pasta-Ulam chains with damping".
